Where did the Revised Standard Version come from?

The RSV translation of the Holy Bible was created to provide a more accurate translation of Sacred Scripture from the original languages into modern English, something Ven. Pius XII called for in his Encyclical, Divino Afflante Spiritu, no 16.


A Catholic edition (the RSV-CE) was approved based on the RSV in 1966. This is the translation that the English edition of the Catechism of the Catholic Church most often cites, due to its ecclesiastical approval, its accuracy, and its readability, (see the front matter to the CCC)
